Thyme - Black Dog
Thyme
was born first and did not seem to be alive. ..Jacquie rubbed him and suddenly he took
his first breath. ..As a young dog
he did not seem to be as intelligent as the others but he was
hidding his light under a bushel. ..When
his elder brother had an accident Thyme went into training as a
Demonstration Hearing Dog - it changed him completely perhaps
being so intelligent he had just been bored before. ..Thyme made a very good demonstration dog
and was a superb ambasador for the charity and the breed. ..Unfortunately in later life he developed
a form of degenerative neuropathy which baffled all the vets, the
muscles on his hind legs withered and he had to retire.
Tansy - Wheaten Bitch
Thyme was
a big puppy and his mother had no push left so we had to wait for
Tansy to arrive. ..Jacquie was sure
that there was more than one puppy so Mum had to go to the vets. ..An operation was being discussed when lo
and behold Tansy arrived. ..Tansy was with us when we went to the
Hearing Dogs training centre for their open day. ..Up until then she had been a show dog
but the staff were impressed with her and asked if they could
train her. ..After much
consideration we agreed and she became Hearing Dog number 67. ..She entered the training centre with
another Buhund (Frostisens Wockie) and they shared a kennel
during their training. ..Tansy was placed with a deaf draughtsman
working in London and would lie under his desk asleep. ..Much to the amusement of the others in
the office she would startle visitors with a gentle woof -
"Is there a dog in here" they would say. ..Tansy also
learnt a very useful addition to her repetoir of sounds, when
driving she tells Nick of sirens from the emergency services. ..Nick likes to take holidays in Italy
and cannot take Tansy with him because of Britain's Quarantine
laws so she often comes back for a visit.
